Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right background-music solution for your business can feel confusing, especially with licensing rules, hidden fees, and outdated industry practices. Ambient was built to simplify all of it.

Below, you’ll find answers to the most common questions about how Ambient works, what’s included, and how we keep pricing fair and predictable for cafés, restaurants, studios, retail, and other commercial spaces.

If you've got any other questions, contact us anytime.

Do I need any special hardware to use Ambient?

No. Ambient works on any modern browser, just load up the web app on your laptop or desktop. No special speakers, hardware or additional devices are required.

iOS and Android mobile apps are on the way — watch this space.

Do I need a separate music license to use Ambient in my business?

No additional license is required to use Ambient.

All music available inside the Ambient platform is cleared for use within the Ambient service, so you can play it in your venue without needing extra agreements or dealing with traditional music licensing organisations.

However, if your business also plays other sources of music (e.g., Spotify, radio, live bands, DJs, or any third-party copyrighted music), you may still require the appropriate public-performance licenses for those activities. Ambient only covers the music streamed directly from our platform.

Is the music on Ambient royalty-free?

Yes — when played through the Ambient app.

Our catalogue is created and curated exclusively for Ambient, so you with a current subscription to Ambient, you can play our music as much as you like within your venue.

Can I upload my own music or add tracks from Spotify/YouTube?

No.

For legal and consistency reasons, Ambient only streams music from our own curated catalogue. This ensures every track available in the app is cleared for business use.

Is it legal to play Ambient in a café, restaurant, hotel, or retail store?

Yes.

We own the commercial rights to all music available on the Ambient platform, which allows us to offer these tracks for use within your venue. As long as you’re streaming music directly from Ambient, you’re covered and don’t need separate public-performance licenses for those tracks.

Can I use Ambient for multiple venues or locations?

Yes. Simply create an account for each venue.

Each venue requires its own subscription, just like any other commercial music platform.

What happens if I don’t like Ambient and want to cancel?

You can cancel anytime. There are no contracts or hidden fees, and if you’re within the money-back guarantee period, you’ll receive a full refund. We offer 30-day money-back guarantees on an annual plan, and a 14-day money-back guarantee on new monthly plans.

We’re always working to make Ambient better, so if you do decide to cancel, we’d love to hear your feedback — it helps us improve the experience for everyone.
